LeBron James is trying to make a difference, just like 19-year-old Emmanuel Duncan out of Indiana.
Duncan suffers from Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a terminal condition that turns muscle into fat. Most patients don’t reach the age of 20 before the condition freezes the heart, but Duncan isn’t dwelling on that.
Instead, Duncan spends most of his days trying to inspire others. He speaks to his school’s football team as a motivator and he’s planning for the day where he can coach his own team.
To make a long story short (although you should really read Gregg Doyel’s heartwarming story on this kid), Duncan is a huge fan of James, and his one wish was to meet him.
“My bucket list is to meet LeBron,” Duncan said. “That’s the one thing I want to do. Meet LeBron James. That’s my role model. He inspires me to do everything. To be a good person, to put other people first, to live your life and do what makes you happy. If I meet LeBron James, that would make my day. I wouldn’t ask for anything.”
The news reached James, and the Cleveland Cavaliers star responded by sending a letter, a signed jersey, and a package of items to show his support.
